For some time now, my daughter Kayla and I have been stewing over whether or not to attempt doing a e-course. Just because there are so many out there and what new things could we possibly offer that someone else hasn't already. After much pondering we decided to plunge forward and do this course called Make Something Beautiful.
Here is what we really will focus on and think what is so important.
I personally am a self-taught artist. And that means learning by trial and error, not really having any formal structure; and quite honestly it hasn't been easy. I longed always to escape off to art school; where I could learn the basics on up on how this all properly works. There was just a lot that I really didn't know.
Kayla {my daughter} started her art training with an instructor at a very young age. A woman by the name of Mignon taught her so many basic things and what things are important to become an artist. In turn Kayla would come home and teach me these things. She taught me techniques and tricks at her young age that I had never known. I was secretly jealous of the lessons she was receiving, and also slightly jealous of her instructors way of living and breathing art. I had always wished that I knew more or was more accredited to be able to teach people that way. I longed for that validation.
Years past and soon Kayla was always taking instructions and learning more and more and teaching her mom more and more. She then went off to college and dived right into the art program at her University. She was in the most perfect atmosphere for an artist. She worked hard and earned her way to getting a studio spot in the artist pit, {that's what I called it}. It was fantastic; a big room in the basement of the art building, full of artists doing their own thing sectioned off from each other with just a mere curtain here and there. Once again she would learn so much and be gracious enough to teach me things she thought I should know. And trust me there still are some things I just do not get right. Perspective is one of them. I always look for her critique, always.
Here we are now; and having made the decision to launch this e-course; we are very excited to pass on and relay all the pertinent information all artist should know. One thing I have learned is the more people you learn from the better. Every e-course you can find to take is a good thing. You will always learn something new each time to strengthen your talent.
We want you to have the feel of a new beginning; of learning what stepping into art school is like. What the first things you would learn would be; and why learning different techniques can even take you on a different artistic path, that possibly you didn't think you would ever go down.
Art is broad. There are so many avenues to take. But learning about things like lines, shapes, shading, colors, instruction like that you don't need a whole big array of colors in front; that you can just use three colors to make so many different colors for a painting. It's fun to learn that different type pencils do different things. It's good to learn you can draw; even when you think you couldn't; you actually can. You may discover that you are a better painter, than a sketch artist; not always do those two things go together. Art is about finding what makes your heart sing; what your memory holds by looking at your still life object. Just because you are looking at an object; doesn't mean you are not using your memory when you look down to put it on paper or canvas.
I hope that you will consider signing up for our course. I just know we will give you some enlightenment on your art journey. No matter what your medium is; painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpting, you will receive good teaching to help with your art. Or maybe you have never attempted any of this before, ever. This course will be the perfect thing for you. Learning is always good.
Our cost is jut $75.00, but the best news of this is you have that opportunity to make that fee back by trying to sell your art at our online art salon. We want to showcase your work, so you will be able to share with the world your talent; we want you to learn to sell your art. During the course you will be given assignments to do; those assignments may be what you want to sell along with your final project. It's all so exciting!! So during the course we will have a public forum through our Facebook page; and Flickr so the general public can get a visual of your work. We will also have a closed to the public Facebook page for our classroom feedback and critique sections, and that will be the place where we help each other.
Sign-ups will begin the first of February and run through the month up until the time classes begin in March. Classroom lectures, and videos will be private; just for students and private passwords will be given to log in to the site. We are also lining up guest artist to hopefully share some of their techniques as well.
Thanks so much for reading about why we are doing this. Please pass on information to your friends that may be interested as well!! The more the merrier. And we really hope that you can join us!!! :)
