What started out as a pretty normal day, didn't end with a normal day. While I was doing some sewing, Dave came in the room and said he wasn't feeling well and his jaw was really aching, and his arms were numb. We both thought maybe it was his back, but then I looked at his fingertips and they looked a bit purple. We googled heart attack symptoms and felt he should really go to the emergency room. He almost didn't because we do not have health insurance and aren't exactly flowing with cash. But better judgment took over and he went.
Our hospital was very cautious with him, they took a lot of tests, and then decided it would be best if he was transported by ambulance to Wenatchee, which is 90 miles away {the closest bigger city}.
I drove back home with Kayla in tow, packed up a few essentials, but totally forgot everything for Dave {they gave us his clothes, shoes, etc, and we left them home}, and then I grabbed what cash we had and Matt {my take charge son} drove Kayla and I to Wenatchee to their emergency room.
When we arrived the {McDreamy} doctor told us that Dave had suffered a heart attack. Wow, just like that. So fast, these things happen.
He went through many tests, had a great crew at his side, and the nicest. Now he is resting comfortably in the hospital. The kids and I attempted to get a hotel room. All I had was cash, because our credit cards are tapped out; we couldn't get a room, so I asked the super nice little guy behind the counter, well can't someone call in a credit card for us?? {with my most pathetic look}, he said "no", they have to be present, however I can get the information faxed to me with photo copies of the credit card, etc.. yadda yadda.
My sweet and trusting son-in-law Tohny, was gracious enough to let us use his card, and also learned how to use the fax machine all-in-one-night. He is home watching the dogs, cats, and sundry of other creatures we may have lurking about.
All is well now, we are tucked away in our room, me and my babies. I am desperately on the verge of crying, and feel quite shaky inside and want Dave next to me, but he isn't here.
Tomorrow morning he will have more tests and an angiogram to see where the blockage is, then we take it from there. The doctor said the most important thing to me before leaving, {he is safe for now}, that was a bit comforting.
We shall take one-day-at-a-time.
