Industrial meets Shabby

Induchair

If you have an old industrial chair, and not sure what to do with it?  Grab some vintage chenille and re-cover your chair pad.  I love the industrial look mixed together with vintage/shabby.  This was a little piece of robin egg blue lumpy chenille I used for the chair paid.  I also added a little more cushion to it.  The trick with these chairs, is that there is no way to use a staple gun - because of the metal, but these smart people who designed this particular chair made little pointy hooky thingys underneath, kinda like the back of a picture frame, where those little pieces hold the back of the frame in.  Yep, that's what this looked like except they were sharp pointed little tabs.  So all I had to do was fold the material over and hook it on and presto, a lot slicker than the staple gun.  This little chair is getting ready to be sold at The Farm Chicks show.

Another Piece of Art

Chandie_etsy_3

i know it seems like i am all about art lately and selling prints, etc., and i apologize if it seems boring.  when one is in creative mode, you go with the flow.  honestly i haven't found my groove until lately.  i have dabbled in this and that, doing different kinds of art, but nothing felt right until now.  i love painting things that make me feel good, like chandeliers, coffee scenes, that kinda back in time european feel.  i could open a coffee house and be surrounded by this kind of thing.  i have been doing other things of interest too, like playing tennis, cooking some good dinners, baking and praying for spring/warmth/sunshine, any of it.  i have a new hammock i want to loose track of time lounging in on a lazy weekend day, but it doesn't seem to get warm.

today i am doing more painting, working on a couple commission pieces, a baby theme piece of work, and a few other projects.  i hope that your day is filled with creativity and sunshine!

forming dress forms

Dressforms_2

beginning works of my dressforms.  i am a little passionate about this piece because of how i love old torn and tattered beat up dressforms.   probably when i am finished i will sell a print of it at my etsy store.  i am keeping my originals right now, but someday in the future i will sell originals again.  lately i have been paying attention to catching myself being present, in the present moment.  with being present i come to appreciate and have more gratitude.  my stillness with God is very gratifying.  while painting is probably when i am the most focused with my inner spirit and what speaks of me.  it gives me that much more gratitude and with gratefulness comes giving.   okay i admit i have been completely inspired by eckhart tolle from his book "a new earth"; it's honestly really hard to follow, yet sometimes simple to understand.  does that make sense?  i have been struggling with who i am, where i am going, and what am i doing.  i saw someone today at the grocery store, whom i hadn't seen in a really long time; her first question after hi, was so what are you doing?  i was completely blank; i couldn't answer anything specific, i don't want a label or the thought of having to say i am something, but if i do i say i have been working on illustrations, and as always i get a look of ...ohh, what does that mean.  i am not sure what it means, it's just what it is, and what i do.  i am not a doctor, lawyer, or indian chief; just me.   today i am grateful for the beautiful sunny sky, my hands are working to hold my paint brushes, and my wonderful family that i can share so many things with, including cookies and brownies i made today.

Button Button Who's Got the Button?

Buttons5

Hey!  Just wanted to share the adorable little button tags my sister made.  They are for sale in my little widget shop - over there - to the right on my sidebar - on top.  I started this shop the other day just for another way to sell my artwork prints, and crafts that my sister's may make or some crafts I make once in awhile.  It's all about family!  Anyway I will show you the tags my sister Rhonda made with really cute vintage buttons on the tags she used old sheet music and aged them a bit.  They sell for $4 and can be purchased through the store - over there - on my sidebar - to the right - did I catch you lookin?  :)

**heaven upon earth**

Stamp2

Such a sweet set of printing blocks I found this past weekend.  It's really incredible and very old, somewhat brittle; but I am excited to use it in some of my artwork.  The typesets are so delicate and small, I am not sure what it was used for in it's prime, but I can only imagine.  Maybe to do some graphic work when making newspaper ads, or just on some correspondence.  Can't wait to start playing with it.

Ladies

Also starting to get quite a collection of these ladies, or lady.  They just make me feel good and protected somehow.  The metal medallion in the middle is of Saint Teresa; of course when I found her I had to snatch it up.  I think my grandma would have liked her too.  I don't remember her having any Saints around her house, well besides Saint Christopher; but we both had the name Teresa, and I am guessing that is where her name came from, was Saint Teresa.  She is the Litttle Flower of Jesus, and it says "I will spend my Heaven doing good upon Earth."  Now isn't that a great attitude!   Let's all be in the moment and make a little Heaven here on earth.

He Was and Is Spectacular!

0412082117a

I know that is a really crappy photo; but with what cameras we could take in (cell phones, and itty bitty cameras) this is the best shot we could get.

Yes, it's Elton!!  What a great show he puts on; oh my gosh, it was my dream come true.  From that young girl in the 70's who completely fell in love with him and had (has) every "album" he made, this was a big big deal for me.  He sang beautifully, I was a little worried because his voice has changed some; but he was right on.  I will always cherish this concert!!!   And best of all I got to share my experience with my baby girl.

with melted down, ugly, sweaty hair, no make-up ( I totally rubbed my face off during the concert I think) !!!  Oh **sigh** I love you even more now Elton.  :)

random chit chat

Chandelier

First off just wanted to show my new print that is available here :)  Do you love chandeliers?  Man, I do, I hope the fad of them stays for awhile.  I sometimes worry about where the trends are taking us, because I love what is there now, the french/shabby/urban prairie looks.  Just feels right.

Art033

Can you tell I love Jason Castro and Michael Johns, from American Idol; yep they are over there on my sidebar so I can listen to my favorite tunes from them, well the ones I could retrieve anyway.  Did you watch American Idol last night?  Wow, it was really great, I loved the end where the contestants sang Shout to the Lord.  It was fantastic, gave me goose bumps, and made my eyes tear up a bit.  Can you believe it's already on You Tube?  Geez, things fly there fast don't they?  Which leads me to the news...lately.

What is up with all this violence in the world today?  The young girl who was beat up by her so called "friends", and then it's broadcast all over the internet, and the news doesn't help much exploiting the situation.  You can't help but feel a little anger, when it's really not the emotion I choose to feel.  So then this morning on the news yet another beating, this time a school teacher!  My gosh, where are we going in this society today.  The tolerence of this is amazing me.  The lack of compassion that is out there is unbelievable.  Which leads me to yesterday...

My husband is a real estate broker/agent, and one of his clients lost their home, in the midst of all this economic disaster that is out there also.  She came to him after the bank forclosed, locked up her home while she was tending to her son whom has a broken back, she came back to retrieve some personal belonging and her clothes, she had none with her while checking on her son.  The bank would not let her back into the house to even get her clothes.  My hubby called the bank, and begged just 5 minutes for this woman to be able to go inside and get her clothes, she had none, the lady on the other end of the phone just simply said "too bad" "no" "not my problem".  Can you imagine being that cold hearted?  If this is a case of where she is just doing her job, remind me not to get a job like that.

Happier notes; it's beautiful outside today, the sun is shining, I see robins, and blue sky!!  I have a new hair do!!  And I am going to play tennis this morning!!  Life is good despite all the ugliness that surrounds us.  And....oh be still my heart, just two more days and it's me and ELTON!!!!
