My New Get-Away Destination

Homepic

If you have a moment, hop on over to this website, and check out Mary Jane's Farm B & B.  Oh my gosh, I completely fell in love with these little tent get aways located on her farm.  They look so very romantic and relaxing, I cannot wait to get there this summer.

Pumphouse

Look that's the showerhouse!!  Isn't it fantastic??  All outdoors; outhouses, showerhouses, the works.  Each tent comes with a little woodstove for warmth and a cookstove so you can make your own meals.  Simply wonderful.  When you check out the website, take the virtual tour, you will love these little nests.   Now if we can get that global warming to work where we live and bring on some heat instead of snow, geez, what is up with this?  No flowers, no green anything popping up yet, just cold weather and yes snow.  C'mon already it's supposed to be spring!!  :)

I am still looking for signs of spring, it's really cold here and actually snowed!!  It's the craziest March I have ever seen.  Hope you have loads of spring where you live.  And please, send some our way. :)

Trying to feel Spring

Shortcake

Hello!  It's still very cold and chilly here, so I am pulling out any signs of spring/warmer weather I can muster.  As soon as I smell strawberries I feel better; it feels like warmer weather on the way!  The snow has finally melted, but it's very crisp outside with snow threatning us everyday, yay, it hasn't so far, cross your fingers!!  I am sharing my shortcake recipe, just in case you need some spring fever treats too!

Strawberry Shortcake

1 qt. ripe strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced

1/2 cup of sugar

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 Tablespoon baking powder

3/4 teaspoon salt

2 sticks of cold butter

1 cup buttermilk

Combine strawberries with sugar and set aside.

Spray a round cake pan with cooking spray or butter the pan.  Preheat oven 400 degrees.

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.  Use a pastry cutter to cut in the cold butter.  Add the milk and blend together; Pour and pat the batter into the cake pan.  Or you could roll out and cut individual biscuits.  Bake 20 to 25 minutes; and 12 to 15 minutes for the individual biscuits.

Remove large biscuit from baking pan, let cool.  Slice pieces; put on a plate, cover with strawberries and of course Cool-Whip!  Enjoy and taste summer!!

Easter & Birthday Week!

Kitty_and_bunny_by_weezey

Hey everyone!  I have a busy week ahead..it's Easter time already, geez can you believe it?  I like it better when it's in mid April time.  It seems way too early.  Also, it's my daughter's birthday week and her fiance.  I have plans to be very productive in my "studio" this week also.  That is what I have been missing, "productiveness"!  I have plans of making some little Easter baskets for my sisters.  I received the sweet little tags, which I really love from Dawn!

Matt

I don't have a whole lot to say, just a little quiet right now.  Things in life are shifting and I am trying to adjust and be still at the same time.  I have excitement in my gut and feel things a new in my heart, but just need to be quiet, does that make sense?  Different feelings are surfacing and purposes are starting to bloom.  I am feeling a lot of creativeness and may bury myself in that for a while.  Thanks little blog world for being here and letting me type my feelings out.

Alone in the Driver's Seat - Part II

Music

A continuation from this post; I just wanted to add a little and touch upon a few more things.  First off I was so elated by the comments and the emails I received from talking about working on your own; the isolation; and the moments of feeling a bit too alone.  Honestly after my children left home, I thought I would be so excited to leave the nest and get a big grown up job; I did do this for awhile; and then my heart yearned for the comforts of my own schedule, and my creative juices wanted to flow.  It's great to be free of someone else's schedules and demands; however I found myself feeling really isolated, with no children about and having to be structured enough to work on my own.  It's been a year now since my last outside of the house job; and honestly I am still settling in and getting to know myself.

Keyboard

Something very important I have learned while being in this independent life, is keeping your mind alert and strong.  It's very essential to keep your mind stimulated.  While working on art, it's very draining, you put your whole body and soul into your craft and it can be quite depleting; however it isn't exactly what I would call mind stimulated.  Some of you may disagree, but with me it's such a detached feeling (creating), that my mind is somewhat mushy after working on a piece.  So to keep focused and alert, I try to maintain some sort of intellect about me.  I not only have vintage sheet music for working on art pieces, but also actual use it to play some tunes on my keyboard.  It makes my mind study and focuses on rhythms and beats and counting.

Whether you are a stay-at-home artist, mom, creative soul, writer, etc., take time out of your day to enlighten your brain.   I enjoy doing crossword puzzles every now and then, wow talk about making you think, and you will always learn a new word.  If you live in an area that has a Toastmasters, that would be a great outlet.  Bible studies are always so very good.  When my kids were young I volunteered in their classrooms to help the teacher with tasks.  Back then I was just as smart as a fifth grader, now not so sure!  :)  This is election time, lots of political things going on, I try and keep up with current events, and one could always volunteer for their local political groups.  Just in case I have to carry on a conversation I want to know my p's and q's of what's going on in our world.  Take music lessons, or once I took a Interpersonal communications class, great way to chit chat.   Anyway, you understand how important it is to stay smart.  Please leave you suggestions too.  We are here to network and ideas are so wonderful to hear.

My prayer for you is a dream
big enough to capture your heart,
bright enough to illuminate your mind
and deep enough to satisfy your spirit
May you find the strength to pursue it
and be enriched by it across the years.
